The CalPERS Customer Service and Outreach Division is recruiting to fill a Retirement Program Specialist I position within our Contact Center. This position is responsible for providing professional assistance and information to customers regarding CalPERS retirement and health programs.
 
The position will be located in a call center environment and will perform the following duties:
  • As a Subject Matter Expert, assist other staff on issues that require in depth analysis or expertise from specific program areas.
  •  Interpret CalPERS statues, laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Respond to time-sensitive inquiries or complaints concerning retirement and health benefit issues, such as purchase of service credits, death benefits criteria, retirement allowance options, and community property.
  • As appropriate, coordinate responses with representatives from across the enterprise.

Individuals who are currently at the Retirement Program Specialist I level or who are eligible for transfer or list appointment to this level are encouraged to apply. In the Explanations section on the State application (STD. 678), all applicants must indicate the basis of eligibility (e.g. SROA, Surplus, reemployment, reinstatement, transfer, list eligibility, or Training and Development [T&D] Assignment etc.). If your eligibility is based on an employment list, please include a copy of your exam results with your application. Appointment may be subject to SROA/Surplus restrictions. Surplus applicants must attach a copy of their surplus letter with their application.
 
PLEASE NOTE: Possession of minimum qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the minimum qualifications, the application will be forwarded to the State Personnel Board for review and the applicant's name may be removed from the eligibility list.
