Job Information

Assistant Engineer - Civil positions perform journey-level professional engineering work and may serve as design engineer with responsibility for all phases of a design project; perform complex construction inspection; check building and subdivision plans; serve as project manager for engineering projects of average complexity; may supervise paraprofessional staff; and perform related duties as assigned.  

Minimum Requirements

You must meet the certification/education/registration and experience requirements listed below on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
 
CERTIFICATION/EDUCATION/REGISTRATION:  You must meet one of the following options. Proof must be submitted to the Personnel Department.

Option 1: Registration as a professional Civil Engineer with a State Licensing Board. 

Option 2: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate issued by a State Licensing Board.  

Option 3: College graduation with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering degree.

EXPERIENCE:
Two years of full-time professional civil engineering experience.
 
 
NOTES

  • Employees with a valid, State of California registration as a professional Civil Engineer are eligible for an additional 15% pay.
  • Additional qualifying professional Civil Engineering experience may be substituted for education lacked on a year-for-year basis. (One year of full-time experience = 30 semester/45 quarter college level units.)
  • A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering may substitute for one year of the required experience.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire.

 
 
 
 

Screening Process

The screening process will consist of a comprehensive evaluation of the application for applicable education, experience, and/or training to ensure all minimum requirements have been met. Successful candidates will be placed on a list which will be used to fill position vacancies during the next one year. For each vacancy, only those candidates with the most appropriate qualifications will be contacted by the hiring department for an interview.
