Primary Purpose

Performs routine clerical duties on nursing units of the nursing home facility.
 

Essential Job Functions to Include

  1. Places, receives and documents telephone messages between staff, residents, families, and responsible parties.
  2. Performs data entry, copy, fax, file upload and perform other clerical duties for nursing unit efficiently and in a timely manner as directed by the Unit Coordinator or Health Information Manager.
  3. Maintains clothing and personal effects chart for each resident on unit. Performs bed bug check per policy.
  4. Reviews residents' medical charts on a monthly basis to pull or purge according to established policy and procedure.
  5. Greets, directs and gives non-professional factual information to residents, visitors and personnel from other departments.
  6. Prepares admission charts according to facility policies and procedures.
  7. Routes charts when resident is transferred, discharged, or expired to other units or Medical Records.
  8. Completes all necessary filing on nursing unit efficiently and in a timely manner.
  9. Assists with transportation during meal time and with meal tray distribution.
  10. Assists with transporting residents to facility-based appointments and activities.
  11. Reviews residents’ electronic medical chart for correct filing and naming conventions and missing documents.
  12. Distributes mail, appointment reminders, newspapers, flowers etc. to residents.
  13. Posts memo notices for staff.
  14. Regular attendance is required.

Knowledges, Skills and Abilitiees Required

  1. Requires minimal skill in performing a series of routine procedures or in operating equipment according to standardized instructions.
  2. Requires understanding and using business or trades vocabulary or basic arithmetic to perform standard operating procedures.
  3. Requires minimal responsibility for contributing to department objectives by supporting or performing routine work activities within a small organizational unit.
  4. Requires obtaining and exchanging information, referring inquiries to appropriate source, or responding to questions from county employees or members of the general public.
  5. Requires a combination of job functions using minimal judgment to perform practices to perform a variety of job tasks according to clearly prescribed standard practices and procedures.
  6. Requires minimal choice in performing routine duties under immediate supervision and in following simple instructions according to standardized policies and procedures.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with nursing staff, residents and their families, and the general public.
  8. Ability to retain confidential information pertaining to medical records.
  9. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
