Description

RESPONSIBLE TO:      Director of Adult Basic Skills
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for coordination of Adult Basic Skills programs across Douglas County. These programs are offered in conjunction with the Federal Title II Grant, which is administered by the Oregon Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development. The Coordinator ensures that ABS programs comply with Title II guidelines, State Department of Education guidelines, and UCC procedures. The coordinator provides ongoing guidance and support to students, as well as coordinates intake activities, including orientation, assessment, and registration. The Coordinator works closely with a team who help fulfill the mission of the department by facilitating state initiatives, department projects, and other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Essential Functions:
· Develop, schedule, conduct, and evaluate orientations and orientation materials for ABS program, in alignment with the Oregon Adult Basic Skills Learning Standards.
· Assist students with enrollment paperwork.
· Administer, score and interpret CASAS assessment results.
· Work with Registration Specialist to enroll and register ABE/GED/ ESL students in outreach areas.
· Track student progress and retention through attendance records, CASAS assessments, GED completion, behavior and other measures of progress and retention.
· Assist with Title II accountability system for the Adult Basic Skills program.
· Develop and distribute informational materials for student recruitment.
· Monitor and enforce policies and procedures involving student attendance, behavior, and performance.
· Review, edit, and revise campus publications containing information about ABS programming, including the annual catalog, quarterly schedule, website and other pertinent publications.
· Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data/reports for program improvement.
· Coordinate student placement and services with other ABS staff.
· Conduct regular follow-up with students to ensure placement, retention and transition to work and college.
· Assist in coordination of the ABS program and work closely with other coordinators to accomplish program goals and objectives, including the implementation of the Oregon ABS Learning Standards, Title II performance measures, and the ABS Strategic Framework.
· Assist in coordinator of GED/AHSD graduations in January and June.
· Assist in development, planning, and coordination of activities and events pertaining to ABS students throughout the school year including transition and retention activities.
· Work with campus groups to support student leadership and transition activities.
· Represent UCC ABS at relevant local committee meetings and events.
· Perform other duties as assigned by Director.
 
 
 

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in education, communications or other related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
· Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
· Ability and willingness to establish and maintain cooperative relations with UCC educational partners, UCC staff, community organizations/businesses and the public.
· Current Oregon driver's license and good driving record required, as well as willingness to provide own transportation.
