The Position-T
27706-HO
Position Description:
Under direction, the Associate Civil Engineer (Highway Option) performs difficult and complex engineering work and acts as lead supervisor to a small group of engineers and/or sub-professional engineering staff. Associates may serve as project/resident engineers on a single major or several minor engineering projects.
Examples of Knowledge and Abilities-T
Essential Knowledge:
The principles and practices of civil engineering; methods and material used in the design and construction of varied civil engineering projects related to traffic and transportation engineering; the methods of making highway surveys and establishing highway locations; the methods, material, and equipment used in highway construction; the principles and practices of structural and hydraulic engineering as applied to the design and construction of highways, bridges, and culverts; the methods of maintaining highways and of protesting traffic during maintenance and construction work; traffic engineering.
Essential Abilities:
Prepare detailed plans and specifications; perform technical research work and make detailed analysis; supervise and train personnel; maintain effective working relationship with superior, subordinates and the general public.
Desirable Knowledge:
Budget preparation; principles and techniques of personnel management and supervision; laws and regulations pertaining to public works construction and design.
Desirable Abilities:
Prepare complete and comprehensive reports; analyze engineering problems and adopt effective courses of action; lay out work and guide subordinate personnel in performance of projects.
Employment Qualifications-T
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
NOTE: You are encouraged to apply if you took the most recent California Professional Engineer’s examination. However, you will not be eligible for hire until proof of registration is provided to the Employment Office.
