Description
San Mateo County Health Services seeks a qualified Internal Medicine/Family Practice physician to work part-time in our Outpatient Primary Care Clinics providing adult primary care. Additionally, the position will work part-time as an Assistant Health Officer to assist and lead in preparedness and response efforts related to bio-terrorism, communicable disease occurrence and outbreaks, and other public health emergencies. This position is part of a team of physicians providing 24/7 coverage to the public and first responders for bio-terrorism activities. Requires valid current California Physician's and Surgeon's Licensure, Board Certified/Eligible in IM/FP, Master's Degree in Public Health, and Bilingual English/Spanish.
Examples Of Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Carries out activities and leadership functions related to bio-terrorism and public health preparedness, as identified in the department’s bio-terrorism and public health preparedness grant; confers with the Public Health Officer on matters of public health policy, planning and program development; makes assessments for the department on the health status of the community; provides 24/7 administrative response call for bio-terrorism, infectious disease outbreaks, urgent communicable disease situations, disasters, and other public health emergencies; participation and leadership across a wide range of public health activities to assist the Public Health Officer in: Direction of communicable disease control programs and clinics; interfaces with the medical provider community; the public and the media; projects and initiatives related to disaster preparedness and response, chronic disease, cancer, injury prevention, and environmental health, which involve close working relationships with the Epidemiology Unit, EMS, other departmental and county programs, and other public and private agencies and professional organizations; in conjunction with Public Health Officer and the department’s Emergency Medical Services Program Administrator, serves a lead role in disaster and emergency preparedness and response; in activation of the County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and in training exercise, serves as back up to Public Health Officer as Special Staff, advising EOC Director and exercising statutory authorities; acts as County Health Officer in the absence of the Health Officer; interfaces with Environmental Health Services Chief and staff in responding to and investigating environmental situations and developing and implementing environmental policies with public health implications; under direction, develops and issues public health advisories to medical providers, hospitals and community agencies and the public outbreaks and occurrences and other public health matters; participates in planning and management functions of the division of health services; enforces local health-related ordinances and sections of the California Health & Safety Code; coordinates communicable disease investigations involving laboratory, other departments and the State; assist with evaluation and implementation of surveillance systems (clinician, paramedic, pharmacy, laboratory, etc) to detect illness from bio-terrorism; assist with county-wide coordination of bio-terrorism preparedness and response protocols in area hospitals; Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A valid Physician’s and Surgeon’s Licensure issued by the State of California; Master’s Degree in Public Health; Board Certified/Eligible in a medical specialty; and Bilingual English/Spanish
