Description
San Mateo Medical Center has full-time, part-time, & per diem positions available for ER, ICU, Med/Surg, and Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.
Staff Nurse is responsible for direct and indirect delivery of patient care for a wide variety of patient population through the use of the nursing process and maintenance of the standards of professional nursing practice. The Staff Nurse promotes compliance and support of policies and achieves trust in professional collegial relationship. Employees in this group must know their legal responsibilities and licensure requirements. Staff Nurse identify problems; assist in data gathering; propose solutions and participate in evaluation of quality assurance issues. Staff Nurse participate in educational programs to maintain and develop their nursing skills. Employee in this class will be assigned to a primary shift, but must be willing to work various shifts as needed. They are expected to work weekends and holidays as assigned. Employees may be required to perform heavy lifting. Previous experience within a specialized nursing area is preferred.
Examples Of Duties
Establish and implement nursing care plans for each patient through assessment, development, activation and evaluation; organize, assign and supervise duties and responsibilities of other staff members as a team leader; perform nursing care following prescribed rules, policies, protocol and procedures; identify problems, assist in data gathering, propose solutions and participate in evaluation of quality assurance issues; work with patient and their families to provide in-hospital and after-hospital follow-up through teaching and referral; orient and teach new staff members of the nursing team and students; participate in educational programs to maintain level of expertise; participate in non-clinical assignments which may include maintaining records, preparing reports and/or serving on special committees; maintain records and prepare reports; and perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Graduation from a National League of Nursing accredited Program.
Knowledge of: Nurse Practice Act; current nursing and related medical theory and skills necessary to administer nursing care within assigned clinical setting; safety and infection control practices; clinical systems, supplies and equipment.
Skill/Ability to: Perform nursing procedures required for assigned clinical setting; comply with clinical procedures and policies; maintain professional nurse-patient relationships; work harmoniously with other personnel; follow safety practices; assist in the instruction of other nursing and paraprofessional personnel; maintain accurate records and preparing reports.
Licensure/Certification: Possession of a California license as a Registered Nurse or equivalent.
