Job Information

Clerical Assistant II positions work in a variety of City of San Diego departments and perform various typing tasks; serve as receptionists; keep records and compile statistics; operate office machines; and perform other related duties as assigned. NOTE: Some Clerical Assistant II positions may be filled on a limited/hourly basis.

Minimum Requirements

You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
 
EDUCATION: High school diploma.
 
EXPERIENCE: Two years of full-time clerical experience.
 
 
 
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire.
 
HIGHLY DESIRABLE: 
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish and English.
 

Screening Process

  
 
 
The screening process will consist of the following components:
 
1.   APPLICATION REVIEW: Applications will be evaluated to ensure they meet the minimum requirements.  Only those applicants who clearly demonstrate meeting the requirements specified above will be approved to continue in the screening process.
2.   WRITTEN TESTThe Written Test may include, but is not limited to, the following factors: 
·       Reading Comprehension: Ability to read and comprehend data and reports.
 
·        Decision Making: Ability to evaluate written information and make effective decisions.
·        Checking Ability: Ability to make visual comparisons to identify similarities and differences between groups of items such as words or numbers.
·        Written Communication: Ability to write grammatically correct sentences and paragraphs in a clear and effective manner.
 
 
TEST WEIGHT: 60%
 
WRITTEN TEST DATE: Approved applicants will be notified by mail regarding the      specific date, time and location of the written test. You must have a Written Test      Appointment Notice in order to be admitted to the test.
 
3.   INTERVIEW: The interview may include, but is not limited to the following factors:
·         Evaluation of training, education and experience.
·         Interpersonal skills.
·         Decision making.
·         Oral communication skills.
 
TEST WEIGHT: 40%
 
 
INTERVIEW DATE: Approved applicants will be notified regarding the specific date, time and location of their interview.

Successful candidates will be placed on a list which will be used to fill position vacancies during the next one year. For each vacancy, only those candidates with the most appropriate qualifications will be contacted by the hiring department for an interview.
