Park Attendant

Performs responsible semiskilled work cleaning parks and play areas; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Park Security Officer.

Cleaning parks, play and ball field areas; assisting with other projects as assigned.

• Opens and closes parks; patrols park facilities; enforces rules and regulations.
• Repairs swings, slides, picnic tables and related parks equipment to ensure the proper safety of park equipment.
• Cleans restrooms, buildings and park grounds; keeps jogging and nature trails clean from litter and debris; empties trash receptacles.
• Verifies park facility reservations; ensures correct parties are at the proper location.
• Assists maintenance personnel with repair projects; performs painting, planting and raking of park facilities; prepares ball fields for use. 
• Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer. 
• Performs related tasks as required.

Some knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in general maintenance work; some knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of the standard building trades; some knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the class; some knowledge of the methods used in the preparation of baseball and softball fields; ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in grounds maintenance work.

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
