Description

Performs responsible human support work providing housekeeping and personal assistance to elderly residents; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision of Home Care Supervisor.

Examples of Duties

Providing personal care to older adults; performing light housekeeping; providing transportation.

  • Provides personal and environmental care tasks such as housekeeping, health care, and home management to elderly and handicapped clients.
  •  

     

  • Maintains a clean, comfortable and safe environment.
  •  

     

  • Provides personal and preventative care such as personal hygiene, mouth care, hair care, skin care, fingernails, shaving, assisting with mobility and toileting, assisting with dressing, positioning/turning, and catheter care..
  •  

     

  • Performs environmental and home management tasks including vacuuming, dusting, mopping, sweeping, cleaning bathroom and kitchen, changing linens, make beds, laundry, meal preparation, and bill paying.
  •  

     

  • Completes required reports regarding tasks performed for clients per licensure and In-home Aide standards.
  •  

     

  • Reports important changes observed in the family or individual served.
  •  

     

  • Addresses situation when able or seeks guidance and advice from supervisor whenever in doubt.
  •  

     

  • Motivates client toward self-sufficiency and esteem while respecting privacy and dignity of client and exercising considerable tact and independent judgment in dealing with client and client’s family.
  •  

     

  • Demonstrates techniques which will increase independence, socialization and relieve stress to the handicapped person or family served.
  •  

     

  • Attends training sessions and meetings as scheduled.
  •  

     

  • Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer.
  •  

     

  • Performs related tasks as required.
  •  

Typical Qualifications

General knowledge of basic personal health care and home management methods; ability to read and carry out detailed instructions; ability to work with older adults; ability to work with people from all socio-economic levels; ability to carry out health aid work in the home of a patient and perform homemaker duties; ability to practice sound hygiene and sanitation techniques; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and associates.

High School Graduate or equivalent with one year nurse aide experience.

Supplemental Information

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, fingering, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth and color perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of Nursing Aide Certification and CPR Certification.
