Description
Performs professional work reconciling accounts, conducting internal audits, maintaining records and accounts, verifying accuracy of transactions and entries, and preparing bills and invoices; is able to perform a variety of accounting tasks, as necessary; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision by Finance Officer.

Reconciling accounts; preparing journal entries; conducting internal audits; preparing invoices; and filing various tax returns.

- Reconciles central depository bank deposits and statements;
- Monitors grant, capital and special project revenues and expenditures;
- Assists in the preparation of annual budgets and audits;
- Prepares a variety of periodic Federal, State, and local financial reports;
- Computes, verifies, monitors, compiles, and prepares summarized reports for occupancy tax;
- Prepares escheats; processes returned checks;
- Monitors and executes banking transactions;
- Reconciles accounts receivable to subsidiary ledgers;
- Balances accounts payable to invoices;
- Composes and verifies accuracy of journal entries;
- Tracks fixed assets and enters into system; maintains fixed assets records;
- Reconciles investment accounts and prepares reports via investment software;
- Files for sales tax returns;
- Prepares bills and invoices for reimbursements;
- Conducts internal audits on various accounts;
- Prepares vendor files for 1099 reporting;
- Maintains the Finance Office website;
- Assists employees, vendors and citizens with finance and accounting related questions and problems;
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer;
- Performs related tasks as required.
Typical Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting as applied to county government; thorough knowledge of modern office practices and use of standard office and accounting equipment; thorough knowledge of audit practices; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates; ability to prepare complex financial reports; ability to analyze and evaluate complex financial systems; ability to communicate technical ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in accounting with experience in governmental accounting preferred.Supplemental Information
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, kneeling, crouching, walking, lifting, reaching, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work, and operation of machines; the worker is subject to inside environmental conditions.
