VACANCY
- To attend a P.O.S.T. certified police academy for law enforcement training required for appointment as a sworn Police Officer; and to perform a variety of non-sworn activities and technical tasks in support of the Department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and ExperienceGraduation from High School or GED equivalency. No experience required.License or CertificatePossession of, or must obtain, an appropriate driver's license.Knowledge of: Modern office procedures and methods. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Skill to: Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software. Operate a motor vehicle safely. Ability to: Successfully complete the P.O.S.T. training program for entry level Police Officers. Learn and understand, interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Learn to use and properly care for firearms. Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places. Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public. Meet the physical requirements established by the Department. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Attend a P.O.S.T. certified police academy for law enforcement training required for appointment as a sworn Police Officer. Perform various non-sworn law enforcement activities including evidence, property, parking enforcement, and desk officer activities. Maintain contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserve good relationships with the general public; take an active role in areas of public education relative to crime and crime prevention. May direct traffic at fires, special events, and other emergency or congested situations. May serve warrants within the department and with outside agencies; remain current on laws and procedures required for processing warrants. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
- Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Work in an emergency peace control environment. Work involves driving a police vehicle with periods of walking, climbing stairs, running, standing, stooping, climbing, bending, and kneeling. Work in inclement weather conditions; exposure to dust, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and noise. May be exposed to toxic chemicals or fumes or possible explosions. Exposure to stressful and dangerous situations. High risk of injury due to exposure to violent people and situations, especially while in uniform and armed. Light lifting and investigation in confined areas. Operate firearms. Availability for shift work including weekend and holidays, overtime, on-call, and stand-by call.
