Essential Job Duties

  1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
  2. Responsible for providing design expertise to strategic planning projects. Create and produce illustrative plans, street and trail cross-sections, three-dimensional computer models and master plans using computer and hand graphics, in plan and section.
  3. Create multi-page strategic plans and documents utilizing a desktop publishing program.
  4. Manage internal consulting and citywide projects as assigned and will be responsible for managing a design team and studio during community charrettes.
  5. Maintain media, image, and digital library for strategic planning and internal consulting department.
  6. Manage, create and update website information for strategic planning.
  7. Conduct research on policy issues and best practices.
  8. Analyze a variety of data and research to generate policy solutions and identify trends.
  9. Develop and maintain files and record keeping systems for the Strategic Planning Department.
  10. Present information to internal staff, appointed bodies and community groups as needed.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Secondary Job Duties

  1. Work with the public explaining and receiving comments related to strategic planning.
  2. Answer phone for listed duties. Resolve a wide variety of situations, either by researching and/or answering questions personally or forwarding to appropriate person.
  3. Schedule meetings and appointments, follow-up on ongoing projects.
  4. Perform secondary duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Landscape Architecture, Architecture or a related design field from a four year college or university and 6 months related experience required. Two years of related experience preferred.  Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  2. Valid Arkansas Driver’s License.
  3. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  4. Must be able to meet required deadlines while working on a variety of projects such as developing strategic plans for different departments, coordinating charrettes, assisting citizen groups in development of action plans, land or building use analysis, etc.
  5. Must be able to provide expertise and assistance to citizens and co-workers making important decisions affecting project quality and future development or zoning determinations.
  6. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general planning periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  7. Ability to write professional reports and business correspondence.
  8. Ability to prepare and present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers and the general public.
  9. Must have the ability to apply mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages.
  10. Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer and other related software programs such as Microsoft Word, spreadsheet applications (i.e. Excel) and must have a basic knowledge of presentation software applications (i.e. PowerPoint). Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
  11. Must be proficient with basic ARCView mapping software.
  12. Must be proficient with basic design software such as Adobe Photoshop or InDesign. Proficiency in Sketch-up and AutoCAD preferred.
  13. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to move from location to location and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
