Job Information

 

Associate Engineers – Electrical assign work, give instructions and approve engineering standards, specifications, and designs for the generation, transmission and use of electricity; supervise field inspection to check on compliance with electrical and safety regulations; write electrical and Instrumentation and Control specifications and contract documents; conduct studies and prepare revisions and amendments to the electrical code; supervise the administration of the electrical code; and perform other duties as assigned. Tasks performed in the Public Utilities Department may include developing specifications, standards, and designs for water and/or wastewater electrical and Instrumentation and Control systems. Tasks performed in the Engineering & Capital Projects Department may include supervising field inspection for the construction of traffic signals, street lighting, interconnect systems, flashing beacons, airport electrical systems, park lighting, and fiber optic wireless projects. Tasks performed in the Development Services Department include review electrical plans, calculations, single line diagrams, lighting, specifications and Title 24, other code requirements for all building construction, tenant improvements, and other electrical work for approval and inspection; and to meet with architects, engineers, contractors and other individuals involving construction in daily basis.

Minimum Requirements

 

EDUCATION: (Proof of degree/certification/registration must be submitted with your application.)
1. College Graduation with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

2. Certification as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) issued by a State licensing board.

-OR-

3. Registration as a professional Electrical Engineer with a State licensing board.

-AND-

EXPERIENCE:
Three years of full-time professional electrical engineering experience in at least two of the following areas: 

1. Electrical design that includes preparation of design, load calculations, specifications, single line diagram, and Title 24 for residential, commercial, industrial and all other building projects.

2. Electrical plan checking of residential, commercial or industrial buildings for compliance with California Electrical Code, National Electric Code or equivalent.

3. Field engineering to inspect and solve complex electrical engineering problems.

4. Electrical system design, that includes load calculations and preparation of design specifications for public works projects, water or wastewater treatment facilities.

 5. Electrical plan checking of traffic signals, flashing beacons, street lighting, airport electrical sy6stems, interconnect systems, sport and park lighting and fiber optic cable installation and testing

6. Electrical plan checking for putlic works projects, water or wastewater treatment facilities.

7. Management of Instrumentation and Control system projects to design and implement public works projects, industrial or commercial systems, and/or water or wastewater treatment systems.

8. Control Systems or Instrumentation and Control design and plan checking for water and/or wastewater treatment facilities.

For each vacancy, only those candidates with the most appropriate qualifications will be contacted by the hiring department for an interview.
