Description
This is responsible professional accounting work of more than average difficulty.
Examples of Duties
Work involves a variety of professional accounting tasks including maintenance (i.e. budget transfers, journal entries, etc.), review and interpretation of financial records; preparing financial statements and reports; participating in design and revision of data processing application systems; cash management; grant accounting; fixed assets; year end audit and CAFR preparation; budget preparation; investments, GASB 34 implementation; utility billing; and revenue monitoring and forecasting. Performs other duties as assigned and/or required. Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of this position.
Qualifications
Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, and a minimum of three years experience in an accounting position. Must have experience in a minimum of three of the following twelve areas and clearly outline such experience on application:
- maintenance (i.e. budget transfers, journal entries, etc.), review and interpretation of financial records;.
- preparing financial statements and reports;
- participating in design and revision of data processing application systems;
- cash management;
- grant accounting;
- fixed assets;
- year end audit and CAFR preparation;
- budget preparation;
- investments;
- GASB 34 implementation;
- utility billing;
- and revenue monitoring and forecasting.
Prefer CGFO certification and government accounting experience. Ability to communicate and express ideas effectively in written and oral form. Extensive knowledge of accounting methods, maintenance of fiscal records and established procedures in a public agency. Ability to handle complex problems encountered on a daily basis, using good independent judgment, analytical skills and knowledge acquired through training and experience. Ability to effectively train and supervise personnel in order to effect completion of work assigned to unit. Ability to carry out complex assignments independently and make decisions based on established policies and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental officials, vendors, employees and the general public. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required; knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint is preferred.

Testing Requirements
Applicants may be required to obtain passing scored on computer-based exams on Microsoft Excel and Analytical Thinking. Testing arrangements will be made at a later date.
Eligibility List Criteria
An eligibility list, which shall be valid for a maximum of six months, or until the list is abolished, whichever comes first, shall be formed based on applicants who meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates on the eligibility list will be given consideration for each vacancy. Veterans’ Preference shall be awarded, pursuant to Florida Statutes.
