SUMMARY

Teaches gymnastics classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Gymnastics Instructor I:
Assists with set-up, tear-down, preparation, and planning of gymnastics classes. Assists Instructors II and III in teaching tot through beginner gymnastics classes through games, movement, dance and songs. Performs light spotting of children working on basic gymnastics skills on the floor, bars and beam in a circuit environment. Ensures all possible safety measures are observed. Communicates and enforces facility and class policies and procedures. Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports. Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to answer questions and resolve problems. Reports any issues and concerns to supervisor. Complies with City and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures. Substitutes for Instructors at the same level as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Gymnastics Instructor II:
In addition to previous requirements: Responsible for the set-up, tear-down, preparation, and planning of gymnastics classes. Instructs tot through pre-teen level gymnastics classes including warm-up, stretching, games, and leading songs. Performs appropriate spotting of gymnasts.

Gymnastics Instructor III:
In addition to previous requirements: Assists and spots non-competitive gymnastics class in structured format for the proper progression of child development gymnastics. May assist Gymnastics Coaches at team practices

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Gymnastics Instructor I:
Must be at least 15 years of age and have two seasons of previous experience as a competitive gymnast.

Gymnastics Instructor II:
Must be at least 16 years of age and have one year of gymnastics teaching experience in a recreation setting or a private club or six months of experience as a City of Thornton Gymnastics Instructor I.

Gymnastics Instructor III:
Must be at least 17 years of age and have two years of gymnastics teaching experience in a recreation setting or a private club or one year of experience as a City of Thornton Gymnastics Instructor II.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certificates, or the ability to obtain both within 30 days of hire.

Gymnastics Instructor I:
Must attend a City of Thornton “Basic Spotting” and “Basic Skills” class within 60 days of hire.

Gymnastics Instructor II:
Must attend a City of Thornton “Intermediate Spotting” and “Intermediate Skills” class within 60 days of hire.

Gymnastics Instructor III:
Must attend a City of Thornton “Advanced Spotting” and “Advanced Skills” class within 60 days of hire.

TESTING PROCEDURES

The City of Thornton conducts pre-employment drug testing and a background investigation as a condition of employment.
