Description
Performs a variety of professional accounting functions, including analyzing and recording of financial transactions; preparing annual financial reports; designing and extracting information for internal management
Essential Duties
Coordinates, schedules and manages general ledger closing, rollover and data archiving processes; schedules, monitors and verifies subsidiary systems postings; oversees, researches and/or resolves systems and data issues; ensures integrity of the City's financial data. Schedules, monitors and verifies transfer of data between the City's budget and general ledger systems. Monitors City-wide financial data, prepares financial analysis and reconciliations, and works with department staff to make appropriate adjustments to ensure compliance with accounting standards, pertinent laws, policies and procedures. Prepares annual audit work papers for external auditors, including supporting analysis and schedules; develops work schedules for meeting audit deadlines; assists external auditors by researching question, resolving issues, creating reports, and responding to auditor findings. Minimum Qualifications
Accountant I Knowledge of: Generally accepted accounting principles and procedures and their application to accounting transactions. Principles, methods and procedures of governmental accounting, budgeting and financial management. Standards for governmental accounting and financial reporting, as promulgated by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). End-user tools for financial data extraction, manipulation and reporting. . Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or a closely related field. Accountant II In addition to the qualifications for Accountant I: Knowledge of: Advanced concepts of governmental accounting principles and practices, and standards for financial reporting. Principles, methods, and procedures of governmental budgeting. Advanced applications of automated financial management systems, including client-server technology. Advanced applications of end-user tools for financial data extraction, manipulation and reporting. Automated financial management systems. Laws regulating public finance and fiscal operations.
