Recruitment Number 206534- Statewide Employment - The immediate vacancies are located in Ewa, Waipahu to Aiea, Downtown & Manoa to Kahala, Oahu; Lihue, Kauai and Wailuku/Kahului, Maui.
Duties Summary
Perform skilled typing; perform highly complex clerical work and/or supervise and participate in performing complex clerical work; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Your possession of the required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position. Overall paid or unpaid experience must be of such scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that you have the ability to perform the duties of the position. Note: Your calculation of experience must be based on full-time, 40-hour work weeks. Part-time experience must be pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Typing Experience: Two and one-half years of progressively responsible work experience which involved the operation of a typewriter in performing a variety of standard clerical work such as typing of correspondence, reports and other materials, and which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar; spelling, arithmetic; common office appliance and equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions; carry out procedures in clerical work systems; speak and write simply and directly; observe differences in copy and proofread words and numbers quickly, and accurately; operate various kinds of office equipment.
Note: Be sure to describe the scope of your typing duties and responsibilities. Data entry work is NOT considered qualifying.
Skill: Applicants must be able to type 40 net words per minute.
Substitutions Allowed:
a. Graduation from high school with courses in typing, basic English, and arithmetic may be substituted for six months of Typing Experience.
b. Successful completion of a substantially full-time clerical curriculum of less than a year leading to a degree or diploma at an accredited community college, business or technical school and which included courses in typing, basic English, arithmetic, general clerical procedures, and office machines, may be substituted for Typing Experience on a month-for-month basis.
c. Successful completion of a substantially full-time clerical curriculum of a year or more leading to a degree or diploma at an accredited community college, business or technical school and which included courses in typing, basic English, arithmetic, general clerical procedures, and office machines, may be substituted for one and one-half years of Typing Experience.
d. Partial Completion of Training
1) Completion of a half school year of substantially full-time clerical curriculum at an accredited community college, or business and/or technical school which included courses in typing basic English and arithmetic may be substituted for six months of Typing Experience.
2) Completion of one school year (of a program of more than 1 year in length) of substantially full-time clerical curriculum at an accredited community college or business and/or technical school which included courses in typing, basic English, arithmetic, general clerical procedures, and office machines, may be substituted for one and one-half years of Typing Experience.
Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants for Clerk-Typist III must demonstrate possession of Supervisory Aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

TESTING INFORMATION
For this recruitment, you must qualify on a written test designed to measure your knowledge and skills necessary for satisfactory performance of the duties and responsibilities of this class of work. Your examination grade will be based 100% on the written test score.
The written test may be scheduled on either a weekday or weekend. Due to budget restrictions, examinations will be given only at locations within the State of Hawaii. Notification of the date, time, and location of the test will be mailed to applicants at least 7 calendar days prior to the test date.
We strongly advise applicants to make every effort to report for the test as scheduled, as accommodations for rescheduling test dates and/or locations are not guaranteed. Accommodations/exceptions to the scheduled test date may be granted on a case-by-case basis only for reasons of extreme hardship. Applicants who are unable to report to the test as scheduled must notify our office immediately, in writing. The request for accommodation or rescheduling should include a description of the circumstances involved and supporting documentation. Requests received after the written test has been administered will not be considered. The Department of Human Resources Development will not delay the establishment of lists of eligibles for rescheduled candidates.
Applicants are responsible for all costs associated with any phase of the examination process, including the selection interview.
To be admitted to the test, you must present a pictured driver's license, driver's permit card, State I.D., State department issued I.D., or military I.D. card. If you are unable to present any one of these forms of identification, you will be turned away from the test site. U.S. Passports, Permanent Resident Alien cards, credit cards, etc., are not acceptable forms of identification. If you have any questions, call our office PRIOR to the test date.
