- READ FULL JOB DESCRIPTION BEFORE APPLYING. ** YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO UPLOAD A VALID UNRESTRICTED CALIFORNA PARAMEDICS LICENSE FIREFIGHTER 1 AND CPR CARD AT THE TIME OF APPLYING**The firefighter/paramedic position is a part-time non-benefited position. Part-time positions are limited to 960 hours on a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30). Due to budgetary constraints operational budgets do not include funding of CalPERS employer contributions for part-time positions. Therefore, a qualified candidate who is a member of CalPERS from current or past employment will be restricted from part-time employment.
The La Habra Heights Fire Department proudly serves the City of La Habra Heights’ residents and visitors by responding to approximately 650 calls for service annually as well as deploying strike teams throughout the state of California. Each day trained and qualified personnel provide around-the-clock protection for 6700+ people who live or travel throughout the City. The Fire Department is looking for qualified Firefighter/Paramedics. As a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of La Habra Heights you will be tasked with the protection of life and property throughout the community. Working under officers you will be responding to fires medical emergencies traffic collisions rescues and non-emergency incidents while delivering high quality service to the community.The Department is looking for applicants that know the principles and practices of fire suppression along with a knowledge of emergency medical care at the advanced life support level. Safety pertaining to the work is held at a high level of importance and needs to be upheld by each individual. Being able to remain calm make sounds decisions and respond appropriately in emergency situations to maintain a safe environment. An understanding of computer report product techniques and maintaining accurate records to preparer written reports is desired. Communicating clearly and effectively both orally and in writing in the English language is required. Los Angeles County Accreditation is highly desirable but not required at the time of job offer. Los Angeles County accreditation must be obtained within two months of employment. Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Provides pre-hospital care including examining patients and monitoring vital signs; establishes I.V. access administers medications utilizes advanced airways monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms and takes other basic and advanced first aid and life support actions; communicates with hospital and/or health care professionals in person or by radio; completes required reports. Restocks supplies and maintains emergency vehicles and ensures equipment is in proper working condition. In a fire emergency connects supply lines; controls and extinguishes fires using various size hand-lines ladders and portable water monitors. Searches buildings and rescues victims from buildings and motor vehicles sometimes using specialized power and hand tools; uses various hand and power tools to obtain entry to buildings frees trapped accident victims and provides ventilation. Participates in specialized rescue operations including aerial water underground and confined space situations including the use of rigging and shoring. Contains controls and decontaminates hazardous material spills. Participates in clean-up salvage overhaul operations; cleans services and ensures operational readiness of fire vehicles apparatus hoses and equipment and assists with the maintenance of the station and facilities and other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications for Firefighter Paramedic
- Completion of a California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) certified Firefighter 1 Academy or Firefighter 1 certification.
- Must hold an active State of California Paramedic License
- Must have a valid California Class C Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Firefighter Endorsement within 1 year of employment.
- Must have a satisfactory driving record clear of misdemeanor and felony convictions.
- Ability to work 24 hour shifts; nights; and weekend shifts as assigned. Must pass and maintain physical requirements as specified by the City.
