Operates light trucks and equipment in performing maintenance, restoration and construction of roadways, drainage systems and related public infrastructure.
Essential Job Functions
Operates light weight trucks and equipment (i.e., flat-beds, farm tractors, power brooms, graders, road striping equipment, traffic rollers, dump trucks, loaders).
Inspects trucks, tools and equipment.
Uses electrical equipment and hand and gas-powered tools, such as chainsaws, rakes, shovels and hammers.
Ensures the maintenance of trucks, tools and equipment.
Performs maintenance and repair on trucks, tools and equipment.
Assists with traffic control.
Performs physical labor in the maintenance, restoration and construction of roadways, drainage systems or disposal sites.
Uses chemicals and cleaners.
Installs traffic signs.
Cuts trees, limbs and shrubbery on right-of-ways or adjacent road and traffic areas.
Clears ditches, culverts, drains, gutters and beaver dams.
Must be able to meet work schedule and attendance standards.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years experience in the operation of light trucks and/or related light equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires a valid class “B” driver license.

TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate trucks and light equipment. Must be physically able to operate a variety of hand held and electrical equipment and tools. Must be able to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 20 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds to constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to perform manual tasks and remain on feet for extended periods of time. May be subject to a significant degree of danger or risk due to extended periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions (i.e., rain, extreme heat or cold, high humidity), traffic conditions, working near heavy machinery, and the use of chemicals/toxic agents in performing essential functions. May be subject to irate citizens, confined spaces, insects, reptiles, spiders and vegetation.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of work sites, proportions of materials hauled or distributed, and trucks, tools and equipment utilized.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information; includes receiving assignments and/or directions. Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers.
Language Ability: Must be able to communicate effectively in Standard English, and to convey information to others.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations where limited standardized exists to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes accurately in operating vehicles and equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Must have excellent levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress. Avoids violent behavior and any other type of behavior that could threaten the safety of other employees or the public.
Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to hear and understand communications through telephone and radio.
