Police Assistant

Please note: This will be a part-time exempt position limited to 1200 hours per calendar year.

Graffiti may be an ancient art form but can also be more than an eye sore. Entire neighborhoods and communities may lose market values on their homes and crime rates may go up along with graffiti.

City of Salem is looking for a team member to join its Graffiti Abatement program. The Salem Police Graffiti Abatement Team tracks, photographs, documents, and ensures the removal of graffiti within the city limits of Salem. We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual who can think on their feet and take pride in their work. 

If you enjoy working both in a field setting and work well with the public, this may be the job for you. Position is part-time exempt, which is limited to 1,200 hours per calendar year. Incumbents work under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant assigned to the program. Schedule can be flexible.

What are the minimum qualifications?
Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test; must be at least 18 years of age; must pass a pre-employment background check and must have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards. High school degree or G.E.D. and training or work experience with graffiti cleaning and/or painting. Paid or volunteer experience in a law enforcement agency is preferred.
