Job Summary
Public Works is hiring Maintenance Operators I positions in several sections, in both career and seasonal capacities.
This is a great opportunity for candidates that have a Commercial Driver's license, permit or are able to obtain one within six months, and have worked in the construction trades but do not want to travel. The majority of work assignments are within a 10 mile radius. Currently there are vacancies in the hydro-vac /hydro-jetter section and water distribution.
The Public Works Maintenance Operator 1 position for the hydro cleaning section is a full-time career position that works closely with the hydro-cleaning crew leader. The crew leader and the maintenance operator work together daily as a team to operate the hydro-vac cleaning trucks. The tasks that are assigned to the crew leader and maintenance operator 1 include stormwater and sanitary sewer cleaning operations, root removal operations, sanitary sewer grease removal operations, wet-well wash down and debris removal, stormwater and sanitary sewer pipe locating, catch basin inspection and debris removal, vacuum excavation operations for the storm repair sections, sanitary sewer repair section, water distribution repair section, stringing pipes for the lining crew and grouting crew, emergency response operations for plugged sanitary sewer calls and emergency flooding calls.
The Maintenance Operator I in water distribution will work generally as a member of a crew performing work related to the water distribution system. Assignments could include main line installation or repair; service relays installation or repair; valve survey; new service installation; or meter installation, calibration or repair.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Must pass the pre-employment Drug Test
- Must pass the pre-employment Background Check
- Must have an Oregon Commercial Driver's license within 6 months. (Hydro Vac assignment requires a tanker endorsement)
- Must have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standard.
- One year general maintenance, repair, or construction experience in street right-of- way, public works facilities, utility systems, and public improvements. Preference will be given to experience in specific area of assignment. For this recruitment, Hydro-vac and jetter truck or water distribution experience is preferred. Preference may be given to candidates with water distribution certification.
