Position Summary

This internship is open until we receive sufficient applications to fill.

20 hours per week, including some evenings. Duration: 6 months (April 2016 through September 2016), but may vary depending on applicant's availability and department's need.

Applicants must be a college student in their junior or senior year, a graduate student or recent graduate seeking work experience in the field of venue or arts organization management. This internship may be used for school credit.

The Marketing internship at Portland'5 Centers for the Arts gives students a unique opportunity to work in various areas of the Booking, Sales, and Marketing and Promotions department. The Marketing intern will assist with events, routine administrative duties, and be assigned specific projects related to the promotion and/or operation of Portland'5.

Work will include updating the Portland'5 website with current event information, maintaining Portland'5 poster cases, producing the monthly events calendar, updating the electronic reader boards, assisting with events, corresponding with Portland'5 patrons regarding events, ticketing, etc., and assisting the marketing staff in composing news releases and announcements.

Work is performed under the guidance of the Marketing and Promotions Coordinators and will be reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis by the Director of Booking, Sales, and Marketing. Essential Job Duites

Marketing and promotion projects will include

  • Update posters in external cases on outside of buildings.
  • Update brochure racks with brochures and relevant materials in all buildings.
  • Deliver tickets and marketing materials to sponsors and local hotels.
  • Assist with set up and operation of Music on Main Street summer concert series, Summer Arts on Main children's activities, and Noontime Showcase summer afternoon performances.
  • Organize delivery of marketing materials – including season brochures – to clients.
  • Copy and distribute posters and handbills to clients
  • Organize event and venue photos/videos for ease of access.
  • Upload video clips and create copy for venue's YouTube channel.
  • Update the Keller Auditorium reader board.
  • Create digital graphics and update venue's reader board.
  • Create event pages for events on Portland'5 website.
  • Create the Portland'5 Monthly Events Calendar in InDesign.
  • Assist with fundraising and sponsorship activities.
  • Correspond with Portland'5 patrons regarding events, ticketing, etc.
  • Assist the Marketing Coordinators in composing news releases and announcements.
  • Work on other projects as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a college student in their junior or senior year, a graduate student or recent graduate seeking work experience in the field of venue or arts organization management. The Portland'5 Marketing Intern must:

  • Have an interest in venue or arts organization management.
  • Be willing to commit to 20 hours per week.
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop, InDesign, YouTube and Facebook.
  • Be flexible and cooperative, with both the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be willing to perform some mundane tasks.
  • Have great attention to detail and the ability to follow through on commitments.
  • Have the ability to take direction and constructive criticism.
