Job Description


The Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Public Health is recruiting for a full-time Public Health Nurse III

This position functions as the Public Health Nurse III for Seward, Alaska in the South Central Region of Alaska, and provides services to the communities of Hope and Moose Pass.  

Seward and communities served in this area are accessible by vehicle. This nurse III lives in Seward, traveling to these communities as well as Kenai and Anchorage a few times throughout the year.
 
This is a one-nurse Health Center located in Seward, also staffed with a full time Office Assistant II.
 
The primary purpose of this PHN III position is to provide expert level individual, population and systems based public health nursing services. These services include disease prevention and health promotion and protection for all members of the population, particularly vulnerable groups, utilizing nursing and public health best practices.

We are looking for the following demonstrated Knowledge and Experience:
  • Specialized clinical knowledge of nursing skills and practice;
  • Sound knowledge of public health philosophy, principles, and practices as related to public health with a special focus on population-based individual, community, and system care;
  • Able to maintain a strong working knowledge of Public Health Nursing and Nursing Administration Scope & Standards of Practice;
  • High degree of interpersonal relationship/collaboration skills;
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills, presentation skills, and skills in adult learning concepts;
  • Strong organizational skills, such as the ability to prioritize and organize workload, time, materials, and resources;
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to manage change;
  • Critical thinking, negotiation, and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong computer skills, ability to use computer programs for email, word processing, internet searches, producing, and carrying out web-based, long-distance learning;
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills;
  • Self-motivated, works independently, completes projects, and works within the team environment;
  • Knows when to seek consultation and support, and does so as needed;
  • Provides exceptional customer service to both our Section of Public Health Nursing employees and the communities we serve;

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of accounting theories, concepts, principles, and methods.

Some knowledge of data processing as applied to financial control and accounting systems.

Skill in analyzing accounts, interpreting the significance and interrelationships of financial data, and preparing accurate, complete, and concise financial reports and statements.

Ability to prepare sound financial management recommendations to organization managers.

Ability to analyze and implement improvements to manual and/or automated financial systems.

Ability to provide guidance to clerical and technical employees in the practical application of accounting theories, concepts, principles, and methods.

Ability to provide guidance in using specific procedures to find, review, or change accounting data in financial control and accounting systems.

Ability to instruct, supervise, and evaluate employees.

Ability to communicate effectively with others, verbally and in writing.
