General Information

KIND OF WORK: This is responsible work in performing a variety of manual tasks in the operation of one or more types of motor equipment.
 
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK: An employee in this class is responsible for operating equipment safely and efficiently and for cleaning, maintaining, servicing and repairing the equipment. Work is performed in accordance with standard operating procedures under the supervision of a designated supervisor. Supervision is exercised over other workers as assigned. An Equipment Operator I must be able to lift items weighing over thirty pounds.

Requirements

EXAMPLES OF WORK:  (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)  Operates assigned equipment in the performance of various tasks; inspects lights, horn, brakes and other safety and operating equipment to ensure that they are working properly; maintains equipment and makes minor repairs; cleans and inspects equipment; checks fuel, oil, grease, water, filters, tires and overall general condition; trains and supervises other workers as required; fills out daily reports; picks up dead animals from streets; explains rules and regulations to the general public; responds to after hours emergency situations as needed; monitors inventory of tools and supplies; inspects work site conditions to ensure the safety of work areas; assists with grounds maintenance activities as needed by mowing grass and trimming weeds; performs related work as required.

Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  Completion of a minimum of the eighth grade, preferably high school graduation, or the successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, and a minimum of one years experience with the ability to demonstrate skill in the operation of one or more pieces of Equipment Operator I level equipment; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Must possess a driver’s license from state of residence.  May be required to possess a commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements, including air brake endorsement, if applicable.
