Job Description

The Westminster College Counseling Center is pleased to accept applications for a new full-time (40 hours per week) 9-month Counselor position. Expected start date of the position is between August 1st and August 15th, 2011. This 9-month, 40-hours a week position is a part of the Student Life team and reports directly to the Director of the Counseling Center.

The Counselor will assist in the development and implementation of the counseling services designed to meet the growing needs of our expanding student population. The Counseling Center offers counseling and psychological services to individuals and groups including brief counseling, crisis counseling and counseling services for students with acute psychological problems; outreach programs and consultation services; and alcohol and other drug education. The increased enrollment at Westminster as well as the expansion of the residence halls (now over 600 residential students) has increased both the numbers of students seen by the Counseling Center and the severity of problems. This position will maintain a counseling caseload, with duties primarily including individual counseling and crisis intervention with students, with additional opportunities for group therapy, outreach, consultation, and other involvement in the campus community through committee work and similar. The position may also manage a Peer Mentoring program currently aimed at education and prevention of AOD issues, and will work closely with the Residence Life staff in a variety of ways.

Counseling Center presently has two Counseling Staff including one Licensed Clinical Social Worker and one Psychologist, with the latter serving as Director. This new position will bring our total Counseling Staff to 3. In the future, training and supervision of interns or practicum students may be explored.

Review of applications will begin on April 22nd and will continue until the position is filled.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree or higher; Current licensure as an LCSW, Psychologist, LPC, or MFT. Two years related experience and/or training.

Preferred Qualifications:  A generalist orientation, experience with substance abuse assessment, and emphasis on dealing with depression and anxiety issues. Experience working on a college/university campus. Experience with AOD prevention/education.
