Basic Function

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform piano accompaniment for choral groups and a variety of programs and performances; assist in vocal and choral instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level coursework in piano or a closely related musical area and one year of experience as a piano accompanist for choral groups or solo performers

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Accompany vocal and instrumental groups and soloists during classes, rehearsals and performances; assist in determining musical selections; drive a vehicle to various off-campus performances and special events. E

Accompany choral groups and play the piano at special events including concerts, assemblies and festivals; direct sectional rehearsals; transpose melodies as directed. E

Assist with the supervision of students in classes, at rehearsals and at special events. E

Serve as the music librarian; inventory and input new music selections into a computer database; maintain records of the music library; label and catalog music pieces. E

Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing and copying music and laminating materials; make travel arrangements as needed. E

Practice musical selections with individual students as needed; assist instructors by accompanying singers and students with singing roles. E

Participate in fundraising activities as assigned; order items to be sold by students; collect monies; maintain individual accounts.

Assist in the ticket sales office as assigned.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Newport-Mesa Unified School District offers the following benefits:

VACATION - SICK - HOLIDAYS

Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of vacation during the first year of employment, increasing up to twenty-two (22) days beginning the 18th year of service, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month assignments. The number of paid holidays per year varies from twelve (12) to fourteen (14) days depending on the calendar. Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of paid sick leave per year, with unlimited accumulation, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month employees.

RETIREMENT

All employees who are in the classified service and work four (4) hours per day or more are members of the Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and Federal Social Security. If an employee in the classified service works less than four (4) hours per day they are members of an Alternate Retirement System (PARS) and do not contribute to Social Security. Approximately 7% is deducted from your paycheck for the PERS retirement.

HEALTH PLAN

You are eligible for the District's medical, vision, and dental insurance plans if you are in the classified service and work twenty (20) hours or more per week. For full-time employees, the District pays the employee's health, vision, dental, and life insurance premiums with an employee contribution required for some plans. Dependent coverage is available.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

The District encourages employees to pursue professional growth. Professional growth points shall be earned by employee participation while in non-paid status in activities which are employment related. Professional growth points are awarded annually and accumulate at $20 per approved Professional Growth Point. $500 tuition and textbook reimbursement is also available - limited to one per year.,/P>
