Description

Under administrative direction of the City Manager, assists in directing, coordinating, and managing the day-to-day operations of the City (e.g., oversee and guide the activities of various departments, divisions, and special projects to ensure they are in concert with the policies and goals of the City Manager and Council).

Examples of Duties

1.  Assist the City Manager and coordinate and direct the City's day-to-day operations as delegated by the City Manager (e.g., responding to complex citizen questions and complaints, acting as City Manager in his/her absence).

2.  Direct the activities of City departments and administrative staff (e.g., serve as critical link between Department Heads and City Manager).

3.  Develop and implement policies and procedures.

4.  Respond to inquires and requests.

5.  Develop goals and objectives for areas of responsibility.

6.  Lead and/or review the status of major projects.

7.  Develop and monitor strategic plans.

8.  Coordinate activities with Council members and outside agencies on issues affecting the City.

9.  Supervise assigned staff (e.g., provide regular performance feedback, interview applicants, recommend hiring, discipline, and firing.  Lead, motiviate, collaborate, empower, reward, coach, praise, train and instruct employees).

10.  Other Duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field (a master’s degree in Public Administration preferred) and six (6) or more years of progressively responsible experience; or any combination of training, education, or experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
