Requirements

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)  Reviews building applications and blueprints for new construction, additions and accessory structures to ensure compliance with zoning regulations; investigates reports and complaints of zoning violations; issues notices of violation and recommends course of action for correction; maintains records, photographs and other files; conducts follow-up inspections; coordinates the scheduling of and conducts field inspections; coordinates administrative actions and procedures necessary for the legal determination of zoning violations; assists in the planning and development of proposed zoning expansion; maintains patrol of existing zoned areas; records new construction and properties which have not applied for land use certificates and conducts follow-up investigations; investigates existing properties for violations of zoning, signage, and land use laws and regulations; inspects permitted business signs and banners for compliance with sign regulations; investigates non-permitted signs; posts notices at location sites of hearings proposing zoning changes; performs related work as required.

Description

Graduation from a standard senior high school, or the successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, and a minimum of three years experience in land use planning or construction inspection; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

Good knowledge of standards and practices of the building trades; good knowledge of building and zoning codes and related laws and ordinances; good knowledge of zoning enforcement procedures and legal requirements; ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints; ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property owners and the general public.
