Description of Position

Reporting to the Controller, this position of Senior Accountant will provide broad based support with the maintenance of accounting records, reconciliations and financial reporting.

Prepares journal entries, monthly internal financial statements and assists in preparing the College's external audited financial statements and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. Develops new financial reports from Banner and prepares ad hoc reports as needed.

Prepares monthly reconciliation of the College's bank accounts and ensures that unreconciled items are cleared in a timely manner. Reconciles various general ledger accounts as required.

- Efficient and accurate maintenance of the general ledger for cash receipts and disbursements, accounts receivable and payables, fixed assets and accurate determination of assets, liabilities and equity accounts in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Coordinate activities involving outside auditors; provide additional data as requested; prepare year-end closing documents and worksheets.
- Prepares federal indirect cost proposal. Monitors and reviews grants for compliance with government regulations.
- Responsible for maintaining the fixed assets ledger and coordinating periodic physical inventories.
- May review the work of others and supervise staff.  

Preferred Skills & Abilities

.- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- Four years of fund accounting experience, including accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, general ledger and financial statement preparation is preferred
- Knowledge of GAAP and Government and Auditing Standards (GAAS) theory and practices
- Computerized accounting systems, report writing and/or database applications development as well as spreadsheet applications.  

Essential Functions

- CPA certification and experience with SunGard Banner Finance systems preferred.
