Description

Under general supervision, performs work at the full-performance level by assisting veterans and their dependents in securing benefits. Performs field office work and itinerant service for an assigned geographic area. Interviews veterans and their dependents to determine their eligibility for benefits under existing laws. Supervises field office staff. Performs related work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This level is distinguished from the Veterans Affairs Officer 1 by the size or population of the geographic area served. This level serves a large geographic area.

Minimum Qualifications

Training:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.

Substitution:

Additional experience as listed below may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience:

Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid employment involving responsible public contact work in veterans' affairs, employment service, vocational guid ance, claims investigation, or related fields OR two years of active duty in the armed forces.

Special Requirements:

1) Honorable discharge from one of the armed forces. 2) Possession of a valid WV drivers' license and the availability of a car for continuous use.

Supplemental Information

Performs field office work and itinerary service by assisting veterans and their dependents to secure benefits from federal and state agencies.

Interviews veterans and dependents and determines their eligi bility for benefits under existing laws.

Prepares and presents claims for benefits.

Develops appeal cases resulting from unfavorable decisions by the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

Files claims with various state and federal agencies.

Informs veterans and their dependents of their pension, com pensation, educational, vocational rehabilitation, and other rights and benefits.

Supervises field office staff.
