General Statement of Duties

Performs responsible supervisory and administrative work in planning and directing the grounds maintenance activities for the General Services Department

An employee in this class serves as the supervisor over the grounds maintenance of County grounds and outdoor facilities. Work involves the supervision of several employees engaged in a variety of grounds maintenance work. The employee sets work schedules and makes daily assignments, ensures work completion, trains and evaluates performance, and recommends hiring and dismissal. The employee also operates equipment such as tractors, mowers and landscape equipment, and performs maintenance duties to assist and ensure projects stay on schedule. Tact and courtesy are required when in contact with county personnel regarding request for service and complaints. Employees are subject to hazards in grounds maintenance work including both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as noise, dusts, fumes, mists, oils, arid working around moving mechanical parts. Work may subject the employee to human body fluids and is subject to the final OSHA requirements on bloodborne pathogens. Work is performed under general supervision of the General Services Director, and is reviewed by conference and periodic inspection.

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from high school, preferably supplemented by college course work, and extensive experience in grounds maintenance operations, including 3-5 years of supervisory experience.

Special Requirements/Qualifications

Possession of a valid driver's license. Must obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of hire date.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM
Employees may be reimbursed for eligible expenses up to a total of eight hundred dollars ($800) per fiscal year
 
CERTIFICATIONS
1.5% salary increase per advanced certification pertaining to the job
