Job Summary

Salem Police Department is looking for a motivated person to fill the position of a Police Records Technician.  The position requires the applicant to uphold the highest level of integrity and personal ethics, and to utilize customer service skills by serving the community, our law enforcement partners and the officers we directly support.  This is an opportunity to work within a fast paced team environment, and to develop a highly rewarding career.
 
The Police Record Technician work is a combination of clerical and customer service and must be completed with accuracy.  Records Technicians review, approve and route police incident reports, enter and purge time sensitive information in the Law Enforcement Database, enter citations into the records management system, review records for public release, image documents, help customers at the front desk or by telephone as well as other duties noted in the class specifications.  To attain this position, you must be proficient in the use of a computer.  You must be flexible and able to work shift work in a 24 hour operation which may include working a graveyard shift based on seniority bidding of shifts.  

Minimum Qualifications

•Must pass the pre-employment drug test
•Must pass the pre-employment background check
•Ability to work in rotating shifts
 
Education: 

High School Diploma/ GED and Post High School Training in clerical, or business field, AND
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of clerical experience involving accurate and confidential data entry and computer operation in a busy office setting, OR
Any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the examples of work.
 
Certifications/Licenses:
           
•Typing certificate with a speed of 40 wpm and 95% accuracy
•Must pass criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System clearance and Law Enforcement Data System certification within 30 days of hire (clearance must be maintained throughout employment)
•Employees are required to apply/retain Notary Commissions after appointment and assist with notarizing documents
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in law enforcement field
Bilingual skills
